December is down time for most tennis pros, but don’t tell that to Mardy Fish.
The Vero Beach, Florida native is busy preparing the third annual Mardy’s Tennis and Jake’s Music Fest, a weekend long charity event benefitting the Mardy Fish Foundation — and you can join him for tennis, music, drinks and a barbecue.
Fish, who won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Games, is set to kickoff his annual charity event December 11-12th with a Kids' Clinic starting at 4 p.m. followed by a concert by country music sensation and childhood friend Jake Owen at 8 p.m.
Owen is best known for his country hit song "Yee haw" which reached as high as No.15 on the Country Music Charts in 2006. He is currently signed with RCA records in Nashville and tours with top country artists such as Kenny Chesney, Braid Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Alan Jackson, Brooks Dunn and Sugarland. He was named "Top New Male Vocalist" at the Academy of the Country Music Awards back in April.
The extravaganza also features a tennis exhibition and will be highlighted by the marquee matchup between Fish and his longtime tour pal and frequent practice partner James Blake. World No. 23 Blake and Fish are longtime supporters of each other’s charity events and have been teammates on the Davis Cup squad.
