They squared off in the Sony Ericsson Championships semifinals on Saturday and later this month Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki will meet again as the main course in a two-day exhibition that offers a charitable BITE.
World No. 1 Williams and US Open finalist Wozniacki headline the Barbados Invitational Tennis Exhibition's "Tennis Pon de Rock" set for November 28-29 at the 3,700-seat Wildey Gymnasium Complex in Barbados. Tickets range from $100 to $200 for court-side seats for the Saturday, November 28th match, which begins at 8 p.m. That match will be preceded by a senior exhibition between former Stanford standout and American top 40-ranked player Jeff Tarango and Barbados' No. 1 Haydn Lewis starting at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, November 29th, all four players are scheduled to play an exhibition — women's singles, men's singles and mixed doubles — in a 500-guest VIP event at Sugar Hill on the west coast of the island. Both Williams and Wozniacki are scheduled to participate in a fantasy camp and a cocktail party after the event.
You can enter a raffle to win two business class plane tickets, a four-night resort stay, two entries to the Prime Minister's home for a cocktail reception and dinner, two entries into the fantasy camp and two tickets to all exhibition matches. Organizers say funds raised from the event will assist the Barbados Tennis Association in enhancing the existing facilities "to a standard certified by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to host tournaments and ultimately be host to a Caribbean circuit with other islands, improving tennis in the region and to produce world class players."
"Our main objective for our charitable beneficiaries is to create a steady stream of funds, helping them to achieve their goals and create new ambitious goals for the future," event director Jonathan "Kodi" Lewis said. "It is our hope B.I.T.E will continue for many years to come and provide the much needed assistance, not only to improve tennis in Barbados and the region, but to increase our number of charitable beneficiaries. Playing our part for the betterment of our entire island community."
